Jane chattered with Emily amicably as she prepared for the day. She changed into a gorgeous little yellow frock, then asked Emily to braid her hair. The girls had decided upon some riding lessons that morning, as it was a fresh and blissfully-blue July day, and Jane had newly decided that she wasnât as frightened of horses as she once had been.
âTheyâre terribly big,â Emily said as she strung Janeâs hair into a glorious braid. âI can understand why youâve been frightened of them. I think I was, too, as a girl.â
